Practice Background

Mornington Coastal Medical Centre began over 25 years ago with the original doctor operating on his own from his beachside residence.

As the town changed from a quiet seaside resort to a suburb with a large influx of permanent residents, Mt Martha Surgery evolved as well to meet the changing needs of the community.

More doctors joined and the practice was instrumental in bringing to the area services such as physiotherapy, podiatry, pathology, counselling, massage therapy, dietitians and alternative medicine as the local community rightly expected to have access to comprehensive health care.

The original doctor’s house was changed many times to accommodate the greater number of doctors and services but in 2002 we realised that the house could no longer meet the doctors’, staffs’ and community’s requirements.

Housing development on the land side of Nepean Highway has been at the second largest growth rate in Victoria. No medical practice has operated in this area.

In October 2002, as an extension of our philosophy to change with the evolving needs of the community, we relocated to Benton's Square to place ourselves in the heart of a new population.

With so much new housing, we have been caring for many young families as well as providing care to our established patients, many of whom have been with us for over 25 years.

Ten years on we once again found we had out grown our facilities at Benton’s Square and so began  the development and creation of Mornington Coastal Medical Centre.

On 24th November 2012 our larger more modern and patient friendly facility was officially opened. The enhanced and better situated service has allowed for some exciting developments for 2013.

From caring for mainly holiday makers, the practice now serves an established suburban community with a broad spectrum of ages and industries. It has the potential to provide wide ranging and comprehensive medical services for the years ahead.
